An annual well-woman visit is a chance to step back from urgent symptoms and review your overall reproductive and sexual health. It is not only a Pap test. Depending on your age and history, the visit may include screening, counseling, prevention, and planning for the year ahead.
Topics to bring up
Tell your provider about cycle changes, pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, pain with sex, vaginal dryness, urinary symptoms, mood changes, libido concerns, fertility goals, birth control needs, pregnancy plans, and menopause symptoms. If something affects your daily life, it belongs in the conversation.
Bring a medication list, supplement list, allergy list, family history updates, and dates of recent screenings or vaccines. If you have records from another clinician, upload or bring them when possible.
Screening is personalized
Cervical cancer screening, breast health screening, STI testing, bone health, blood pressure, and other preventive topics depend on age, risk factors, and prior results. Some years you may need a pelvic exam or Pap test. Other years the visit may focus more on counseling, prescriptions, symptom review, or planning.
Use the visit proactively
Annual care is especially helpful when you are changing contraception, trying to conceive, managing PCOS, entering perimenopause, or dealing with recurring infections or pain. It gives your provider a baseline before small issues become larger ones.
