Menopause Symptoms Worth Discussing With Your OB/GYN

Menopause care conversation with a Raveco Medical clinician

Menopause is a normal life transition, but normal does not mean you have to push through symptoms without support. Many patients experience changes for years before their final period. This stage, called perimenopause, can affect sleep, mood, bleeding, sexual health, and daily comfort.

Symptoms that deserve a conversation

Hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, brain fog, mood changes, vaginal dryness, pain with sex, urinary urgency, recurrent urinary symptoms, and lower libido are all reasonable topics for an OB/GYN visit. So are heavier, closer together, or unpredictable periods during midlife.

Bleeding after menopause should always be evaluated. Menopause is generally considered complete after 12 months without a period, and bleeding after that point needs medical review.

Treatment is individualized

Some patients improve with sleep strategies, nutrition changes, exercise, stress management, vaginal moisturizers, or pelvic floor therapy. Others may benefit from prescription options, including vaginal estrogen, nonhormonal medication, or hormone therapy when appropriate.

Hormone therapy is not right for everyone. Your provider should review your symptoms, personal risk factors, family history, blood pressure, clotting history, cancer history, and preferences before making a recommendation.

Midlife is also preventive care time

A menopause visit can include screening discussions for bone health, cardiovascular risk, breast health, cervical cancer screening, and sexual wellness. It is an opportunity to protect quality of life now and health in the years ahead.
